Yamaha Clavinova CLP 735 Review
We rated the Yamaha Clavinova CLP 735 a 9.5/10, because it has great practice aids, a realistic touch, and is an overall crowd-pleaser. One of the biggest selling points of this particular model is the Imperial Bosendorfer sound sample-And for good reason. In addition to sounding great, this Clavinova has a very sturdy build. Yamaha’s VRM, or virtual resonance modeling, adds the icing to an already delicious musical cake. While we wish it had a few more non-piano tones, we think that traditional pianists will love this model.

Hey there! Welcome back to another keyboard review with BestPianoKeyboards. Today we are taking a look at a professional-grade piano: the Yamaha Clavinova CLP 735.Â
Yamaha CLP 735 Overview
The Yamaha CLP-700 series is known for its top-tier piano production. So what do pianos in this line entail? According to Yamaha,
CLP 700 SERIES
“The soul of a Yamaha acoustic piano. The heart of Yamaha innovation. The Clavinova CLP blurs the line between acoustic and digital with authentic grand piano touch, tone, and power. All with intuitive controls that let you do things only Yamaha digital pianos can do.”
Now, let’s look into the Yamaha Clavinova CLP 735’s features more specifically.Â
Features
Professional Sounds Samples from Real Imperial Bosendorfs
The best feature this piano has to offer is its sound. If you’ve read our other Yamaha reviews, this should come as no surprise to you. Binaural sampling has allowed this company to make leaps and bounds when it comes to piano voices. This particular piano actually has sound samples from real Bodendorfs. If you’d like to hear what the famed Imperial Bosendorf sounds like, look no further than this video.
VRM
VRM stands for virtual resonance modeling. The Yamaha Clavinova 735 has improved on this feature, making the sound even more realistic. Speaking of…
Realistic Touch
This keyboard actually has synthetic ebony, which pianists are really raving about. In addition to this, it has graded-hammer weighted keys, which is a must-have in any professional electronic piano
The Real Grand Expression 2Â
As if Yamaha didn’t already hand us enough realism in this gem of a piano! Real Grand Expression 2 takes the tiniest variations in the pressures of your playing and converts it cleanly to an accurate and sensitive sound.Â
Great Practice Aids
Like many Yamahas, the Yamaha Clavinova CLP 735 has multiple teaching aids and built-in songs, to help you learn faster and more accurately than on your own.Â

Who Is It Suitable For?
While this piano is actually the most economical in the CLP line, it is far from inexpensive. This piano is suitable for professional pianists. It’s probably not the best choice for experimental music folks, because this piano doesn’t have a lot in the way of voices besides those of the classical piano. This could either be a really good perk for you, or a feature that makes you want to look elsewhere to other Yamaha lines. For me personally, I really love how much time and effort Yamaha went to in order to cultivate these gorgeous sound samples.
The Piano in Action
Let’s check out the Yamaha Clavinova CLP 735 with ePianos! In this video, a keyboard specialist answers the questions that you may have about this instrument.
I learned that you can purposely de-tune the CLP 735 in order to match instruments that are not in A-440. This feature is really great for those professionals out there who are looking to play period pieces with other instruments, while still being able to have the portability of an electronic instrument.Â
Pros and Cons
Pros
- It feels and sounds like a real piano
- Comes with a great book and a bench
- It comes with a 5-year warranty
- The sound samples are top-tier
- It has GHS, weighted-hammer keys
- This piano has a lot of upgrades from the CLP 635
- It has powerful speakers
As we said earlier, the sound is what makes this instrument. That being said, the fact that it feels like a piano, and comes with some extras (including a warranty) is excellent! In addition to all of this, it has high-quality speakers, which aid in the delivery of a crisp authentic sound.
Cons
- It has a high price point
- The voices are predominately all piano voicesÂ
- It is the lowest level of CLP pianos
- It isn’t very portable
The fact of the matter is that this is an expensive, professional piano that is intended to stay stationary. It isn’t very high up in the CLP line, but I still think that it is a wonderful choice for a lot of pianists overall. Now, onto the quick view.Â

Conclusion
In conclusion, the Yamaha Clavinova CLP 735 is a beautiful instrument with amazing sound quality. If you want to get even snazzier, consider upgrading to the CLP 745, which actually has wooden white keys and Bluetooth connectivity. The 745 also has 4 speakers instead of 2. That all being said, the 745 is probably out of most of our budgets…Â
In fact, the entire Yamaha 700 line is in high demand and low supply. So if you can’t find one, check out the Nord Stage 4.
