Cool Music Keyboard Review
While we wish the key’s weight and speakers were as advertised, the Cool Music Keyboard isnât as bad as you think it might be- At least, not for under $150. We liked how accessible it makes music for newbies and young learners. Itâs light to carry and is a major space saver given the instrumentâs ability to fold in half- Which is why we gave it a flat passing rate.

Cool Music Keyboard: Overview
The Cool Music Keyboard is an economical 88-key weighted electric piano with a foldable keybed and 128 total tones. The instrument was first released in 2022 and ranks pretty high on Amazon in the Portable & Arranger keyboard category. So with that in mind, letâs check out some of the features!
Features
Rhythms, Demos, and 100+ TonesÂ
The Cool Music Keyboard has a total of 128 rhythms and 128 individual tones, as well as a nice handful of demos. Most of the sounds are just okay-, for this price, you arenât going to get much realism, but itâs functional.Â
Double Tone Setting
What cool music is calling double-tone is a split keyboard function, which is neat to have on an instrument in this price range.Â
âThe keyboard can be divided into two identical music parts, and the two-player mode can be turned on. One piano can be played by two people, which is more convenient for teaching and suitable for both learning and entertainment.â -Cool Music (Amazon)
Itâs Foldable and Extremely PortableÂ
To quote the maker âTravel doesnât stop, music doesnât stopâ. The instrument can be folded totally in half and put inside a backpack- Thatâs the main draw of the instrument is its portability. You could backpack up a mountain and still play the piano thanks to modern technology.Â
âDouble-layered, 2.6kg can be easily put into a school bag, easy to carry, open the era of mobile piano anytime anywhereâ -Cool Music (Amazon)
SpeakersÂ
The instrument is marketed as having âDouble 3 Stereoâ with surround sound but to be honest, the speakers are relatively quiet and modest. But, given the fact that the instrument is mostly made to be portable, I wonât be too harsh about judging the little instrument.
3 Ways to ChargeÂ
The instrument has 3 ways to be powered:
- Power adapter
- Built-in Lithium Battery
- USN Port Charging
The battery supposedly lasts up to 4 hours, which is impressive given the price and size!Â

Amazon Ratings:
This keyboard was rated 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon.com. Letâs see what other musicians who tried it thought:
Positive reviews:
- âVery functional beginner pianoâÂ
- âCompact folding piano thatâs great for beginnersâÂ
- âThis piano has so many useful features for beginners and midi music makers alike. My Favorite function is the Midi that you can connect to your computer or other Midi devices.â
Many of the reviews I sifted through had the same sentiment- Itâs a really cool little instrument for beginners and those on the go.Â
Constructive reviews:Â
- The manual isnât totally accurate
- The keys arenât as weighted as they say they are
The keys are weighted, but they are not a heavy weight at all. Plus, Some customers had trouble with the MIDI turning off, and another had an issue with their lowest A key being totally broken (and not making any sound at all). Others didnât like the key feel itself, with one reviewing really not liking the black keys.Â
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Itâs very portable
- Has a variety of sounds that are functional enough for a beginner
- It is MIDI-compatible, so you can record with it
- It folds
- Itâs economical
- It is very easy to set up and use
- Bluetooth Compatible
- App-compatible
Cons
- As expected, the samples could be betterÂ
- Low speaker volume- Not a lot of âumphâ
- I have some concerns about the piano folding along with the electronicsÂ
- The MIDI wasnât reliable for all of the customers and others had some issues with the keys
- No stand included- So one will need to be purchased separately
- No polyphony listed- And it certainly isnât 256 notes
One customer review from Amazon stated that they had a world of trouble with the MIDI connectivity.
âUnfortunately the midi would stop registering in the program mid-song, within 5 minutes of use, sometimes after less than a minute. This was overwhelmingly frustrating, because I had been practicing on a friend’s keyboard, (with the same setup) for a month without any problems, but had to return that keyboard. I did try changing to a good USB-C data cable but had the same results. I will be returning this keyboard because it, unfortunately, does not meet my needs. I suspect the problem lies in the fact that the USB port is being used for both charging and MIDI in & out. There were 2 other intermittent lesser issues that I experienced. When the keyboard was connected to the tablet it would sometimes make a sound like its stomach was rumbling. Again, I suspect the shared USB port. And the E3, E4,& E5 keys would sometimes produce a higher secondary tone, that is similar to fret buzz on a guitar. Strange & annoying.â -UnoTwo
Comparable Instruments
There are loads of comparable instruments on the market, like the following portable folding keyboards:Â
- Fevrey ($159)
- Blackstarâs FoldPiano ($79.99)Â
- Starfavor ($189.99)
If you are looking for a piano to last you longer than the above ones, consider saving up for a Roland Go: Keys or CTK2400– I feel they are more solid beginner+ instruments, and are a bit less gimmicky.

Music quote of the week:Â
âWhen I sing, it’s the most solitary state: just me, and the microphone, and the holy spirit. It’s not about notes or scales, it’s all about emotion.â -Sinead OâConnor
