Bontempi Toy Piano Review
If you follow BestPianoKeyboards regularly, you’ve probably noticed that we seldom give 1/10 ratings. That being said, the children’s instruments that Bontempi makes are pretty atrocious. These past few weeks have been focused on what not to play, rather than what to buy. When you are looking for toy pianos, be sure to steer clear of this brand as a whole. They sound and feel downright bad, and have even been the source of gag music videos.

Bontempi Toy Piano Overview
The Bontempi Toy Piano can be found on Amazon for about $50. While it might look like a cute gift to inspire the little musician inside your child, it’s probably best to steer clear of this brand as a whole.
This Bontempi piano is a little lap piano and is advertised as a toy band. It has several buttons, including volume, and different instruments.
Features
This isn’t exactly your average review- There aren’t a lot of features to be had, to be frank. And that’s fine- If it actually sounded halfway decent. But alas, I delved in, for you, dear reader…
Onboard Controls, Multiple Sounds, and styles
The onboard buttons are extremely cheesy looking and feeling, and consist of a volume arrow up and down, as well as two demo buttons, record, and play. The sounds include: Piano, and organ and the styles include rock and disco.
White and Blue Keyboard with Rounded Keys
I’m not sure whether this is supposed to be a child-friendly feature or is simply just quirky, but the ends of the keys are rounded instead of square. When we change the size, shape, and color of the keyboard, it doesn’t make for a good learning tool, as students may be confused when they switch from this (respectfully, junky) keyboard to something a little more conducive to learning.

Who Is It Suitable For?
Saying that the Bontempi Toy Piano is suitable for anyone is quite a stretch, but, it is intended for young learners.
Other Types of Bontempi Pianos
Bontempi also makes more piano-like instruments (rather than lap pianos). These little toy pianos stand upright and are better than the toy band piano, comparatively speaking. There is such as thing as the Bontempi grand piano, which you can see here.
The little bench on this one looks downright dangerous for children, and I absolutely wouldn’t trust them to sit on it unsupervised. It looks like the plastic could break with too much weight, and that the bench (given its cheesy build) would simply tip over if you looked at it the wrong way.
There is also another toy band piano on the market, which you can check out here.
This is a 24-key piano that has a piano, organ, violin, and music box as far as voices go, and also has a handful more styles than the one in this review. The styles in this keyboard include samba, rock, blues, and waltz. Points for adding a few more buttons and varieties of instruments, but it’s still a no from me!
Bontempi Instruments in Action
Toy band star keyboard video.
The only good or interesting music I’ve heard come from these keyboards are when pro recording artists buy them on a whim, and ‘soup them up’ with FX and high-end equipment. It takes a lot to not make it sound like a subpar toy. But if you want to hear it sound good, look no further than this video.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- It has multiple styles of music and multiple voices
- It is (admittedly) a way to get toddlers into music
- You can record music and playback
- They make neat gag gifts for producers
Cons
- It’s not built to last. The buttons and build are extremely cheap
- The sound is very low quality, almost to the point of being comical
- The piano is clacky and fuzzy sounding

Conclusion
It’s hilarious to me that such a bad piano would even bother having a record and playback button- Who in the world would want to hear all that fuzzy clacking sounding instrument on repeat? Yikes! I hope you’ve found this review to be entertaining. Needless to say, if you are looking to get an instrument to inspire your little one, save your ears and look elsewhere!
